Protection & Controls Engineer (PE)
Senior protection and controls engineer in our Houston engineering office. Lead relay panel design, factory and on-site testing, and integration with utility control systems on substations from 12.47 kV to 500 kV.
RESPONSIBILITIES
What you'll do.
- Design relay panels, control diagrams, and the schematics for substation protection.
- Lead testing at the panel manufacturers and on-site at the substation.
- Integrate our work with utility control systems using standard industry protocols.
- Coordinate with construction foremen on panel installation and turn-on readiness.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians on our team.
REQUIREMENTS
What you bring.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- 7 or more years of substation protection and controls design experience.
- Experience with relays from SEL, GE Multilin, and Schweitzer.
- Experience with the IEC 61850 substation automation standard.
- Comfortable working in the field — this is not a desk-only role.
NICE TO HAVE
Bonus.
- Experience commissioning gas-insulated substations.
- Familiarity with NERC reliability standards.
- IEEE Power & Energy Society membership.
